ARENAS Partners work published in respected Ensambles Journel

ARENAS consortium members Gwenaelle Bauvois from the University of Helsinki and Claudia Jareño Gila from CY Cergy Paris Université recently collaborated on a paper that was published in the Spanish journal Ensambles. Their article, “The Nemésis collective: the revenge of far-right feminists”, examines the French collective Némésis, which defines itself as feminist but maintains close ties with far-right networks.

This group exemplifies a broader shift toward greater female presence in far-right activism, challenging the traditional view of these movements as male-dominated. Academic research has tended to overlook the female role in radical right-wing politics, although recent studies highlight its growing relevance.

This feminisation is evident in visible leadership and digital activism, transforming public perceptions and political strategies. The study positions Némésis at the intersection of feminism and the far right, emphasising its use of femonationalist discourse, which combines feminist rhetoric with nationalist and exclusionary agendas. By appropriating feminist language and methods, the collective seeks legitimacy within feminist spaces, promoting a right-wing vision of feminism that contrasts with progressive and leftist perspectives.
